Biographical Sketch
Yongjian Yu was born in Chengdu, Sichuan, China, in 1961. He received
the B.S. degree in physics, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering
from University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC),
Chengdu, Sichuan, China, in 1982, 1985 and 1989, respectively. He was
a member of the faculty of UESTC from 1989 to 1999, where he had held
the position of Associate Professor of electronic engineering since
1993. From August 1993 to December1995, he was a Visiting Scholar with
the Remote Sensing Group, Alenia Spazio SpA, Rome, Italy. From 1999
to 2000, he was a Research Assistant with the Department of Electrical
and Computer Engineering, Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma;
From 2000-2003, he was been a Research Assistant with the Department of
Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Virginia, Charlottesville,
Virginia. Dr. Yu received the Science
and Technology Progress Award of the Ministry of Electronics Industry
of China in 1994 and the National Scientific and Technological Progress
Award of China in 1999.
Research Interests
Yu's areas of research included medical ultrasound imaging, speckle
signal, and speckle image processing systems. Specifically, Yu researched
speckle reducing anisotropic diffusion and the detection
of contours of organs using normalized first order and second order
differential operators.
